Term 2, 2022 Newsletter

What a great Term 2 we’ve had here at Southport Gymnastics Club. There’s been so many amazing things happening, so we thought we’d recap.

 Fundraising

We’re excited to share that thanks to all your amazing fundraising efforts we have been able to purchase a new FIG approved Spieth competition beam (pictured below) for our club. The committee is so grateful for everyone’s generosity from our fundraising initiatives which included a raffle, Bunnings bbq and our first club disco.

We’re also excited to announce that we have secured another date for a Bunnings BBQ fundraiser for Saturday 7 August, due to our last attempt being rained out. The committee will soon email asking for volunteers so check your calendars.

Team Spirit!

Our team spirit award goes to our senior gymnast and junior coach Courtney, who came and watched every session at state clubs cheering all our amazing gymnasts on. Thank you Courtney for your amazing support and thank you to all our coaches for all your hard work in the lead up to State Clubs.

Amazing achievements

Well done to Alana and Sofia C, who were selected for the Gymnastics Queensland Senior State Squad program, of which the first clinic was last week. Great accomplishment girls.

Alana has also been selected for the Future Stars Program for 2022 by the Gold Coast Academy of Sport The Future Stars Program caters to promising athletes regardless of sport and includes basic fitness elements of the athletes and builds awareness of important issues/aspects that are essential in the development as an elite performance athlete. Alana was one of 19 athletes chosen from 13 different sports.

Pit clean

Thank you to our gymnasts, coaches and parent volunteers who gave up their time to clean our foam pit this term. The clean out of the pit is an important maintenance activity that is required to ensure we maintain a safe, healthy and sanitary environment for our gymnasts. This activity is scheduled to take place every 12 months.

Club Annual General Meeting

The 2022 AGM has been set for 20 August 2022. The committee will email information out about the process  in the coming weeks. Please start to think about if you would like to join the committee in the meantime. Positions available for nomination include President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Secretary and 3 x general committee member positions.

Being part of the committee is a rewarding way to give back to the club, which operates as a not-for-profit organisation. Details on how to nominate will be emailed to all current financial members.
