A 12 month review - committee achievements

The current Southport Gymnastics Club Committee have been in their roles for almost 12 months now and much has been achieved in this time. As we move towards our next Annual General Meeting, we wanted to take the time to reflect on and celebrate some great milestones.

Our current committee consists of:

  • President - AJ Williams

  • Vice-President - Skye Harrison

  • Treasurer - Sara Williams

  • Secretary - Melinda Rogers

  • General member - Stacey Reid

  • General member - Erin Steward

Firstly, we’d like to report ahead of the AGM that the finances of the Club are in a great stable position, thanks to some changes to processes and procedures. This includes an investment of more than $360,000 into the club this financial year, through successful grants, fundraising, donations and an insurance claim. This investment was spent on our major equipment renovation and clean up over the Christmas period, a major building maintenance grant of restumping the building (a requirement under a lease agreement with City of Gold Coast) and a further $60,000 in new equipment that will be installed in the coming months.

Our club renovation and new equipment install has been our greatest achievement to date and this is a credit not just to the committee but to the entire club community for coming together. To recap this is what occurred during our renovation:

  • Huge clean out of all old equipment in and around the gym and under the gym

  • More than 20 loads of tip runs

  • Donation of some usable equipment to not-for-profit gymnastics club in Emerald, rural Central Queensland.

  • Almost whole club painted

  • Doors replaced and repaired

  • Office walls re-plastered and painted

  • New desks in office

  • Front entrance cleared for easier access to office window for parents

  • Pulled up existing carpet tiles, sanded and polished the existing beautiful hardwood timber floors to bring the natural heritage of our building back to life

  • New bathrooms sinks

  • Scrubbed every wall and existing gym mat clean and disinfected

As part of this, we saw the following equipment installed, a value of approximately $200,000:

  • Spieth FIG-certified Elastic Swing Floor (Moscow)

  • Spieth FIG-certified Vaulting Table (Ergojet Rio)

  • Spieth Safety Padding for base of Vaulting Table

  • Spieth Vault Run Up and Jumping Device

  • Spieth Landing Mat

  • Spieth Club High Bar

  • Spieth Club Beam

  • Spieth Tumbling Track 6m

  • Spieth Multi-Mats

  • New matting around the bar area

  • A set of FIG Uneven bars

We’re excited to announce our membership total has increased by 30% during the period from December 2022 to June 2023, taking us to over 200 members! This has been a combination of efforts across the board but assisted by a new social media strategy resulting in a 200% increase in engagement as well as the introduction of our new Parent Portal to streamline the enrolment process.

As a committee through Gymnastics Queensland, we have been taking part in a mentorship program, teaming up with another Club in Queensland to learn and improve our systems as a club. We have also run a number of successful fundraising initiatives this year including the support of Bunnings Southport, with more exciting initiatives to come for the remainder of the year.

Thank you to everyone for supporting us during our time as Committee Members. We also welcome feedback at any time via committee@southportgymnastics.com.au.
